The fund helps professional science fiction, fantasy, horror, and mystery writers living in the Pacific Northwest states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska deal with the financial burden of medical expenses. Click here to donate to the Clayton Memorial Medical Fund via PayPal We generally follow the standards of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) for Active or Associate membership in determining professional status. We would like to be able to give grants to writers to help them get started and to cover general expenses, but our small size and our charter require us to limit grants to professional writers to help them with medical expenses. The Clayton Memorial Medical Fund was founded in July 1996 as the Oregon SF Emergency Fund by Oregon Science Fiction Conventions, Inc. (OSFCI) in response to the illness of Portland writer Jo Clayton. Our initial funding came from a national campaign by writers and fans of science fiction and fantasy and to help Jo. The fund has since assisted other writers in the region. Privacy Policy All requests for aid will be seen and discussed by the members of the Clayton Fund Board of Trustees. The amount of grants will be considered public information. All medical, financial, and personal information provided by applicants for aid shall be confidential and will only be divulged to those persons and institutions directly managing the accounts of the Clayton Fund (our bank and money market managers), and such other persons as the applicant agrees may see the information. The only other persons not on the Board of Trustees who may be given information are the officers of the Fund's sponsoring organization, Oregon Science Fiction Conventions, Inc. (OSFCI) and OSFCI's attorney. However, such information shall only be provided on the condition that the OSFCI officers agree to comply with this privacy policy.
